Ok, maybe not cigarettes, but staying in your seat needs to be a priority. So does taking a break. I had a friend who used to smoke and she would put a cigarette at the end of every chemistry chapter and make herself sit there until she finished. Having that “reward” waiting for her made her stick with the task at hand.

What would motivate you to stay in your seat? Knowing that a piece of dark chocolate, cup of tea, crossword puzzle, or fresh air walk was waiting for you can be instrumental in completing the blog tags you need to do, finishing the newsletter you need to write, or confirming the meetings you have in your calendar.

The trick to making this trick work is actually taking the 10 Minute break! It never ceases to amaze me how many start-up business owners punish themselves by keeping their nose to the grindstone all day long (or so they think). What usually ends up happening is lots of busywork, but little actual completed work. Set the expectation, define the goal, have the reward in place, then go enjoy it!  (Just choose something healthier than cigarettes – I want you around to enjoy your success!)

Isn’t it time you took the time to have the business you set out to have?
